The Power of Connection

I am so grateful to discover the power of connection.

Breaking the isolation by joining communities of women creates a feeling of safety.

Locally, in my quilting, knitting and weaving groups, I have enjoyed being part of a group of people who are having the same kinds of experiences.

There is always someone who can offer advice, not only about our craft, but about the life experiences we are dealing with.

Knowing we are not alone, that there are others, is immensely reassuring.

In my on-line arts groups, people are able to share aspects of their life journies, which enable us to connect through our own experiences.

Connection forstalls the panic which comes from a feeling of isolation and overwhelm.

Connection creates a comfort zone of safety.

Connection establishes normal daily conversation and sharing.

Each neighborhood has its own character.

This is true in real life and on-line.

A sharing community is full of support.

People know one another, conversations take place.

Little adjustments occur daily between lots of people.

Anyone is welcome as a member and participant.

There are standards of integrity and purpose.

We are able to expand our skills and enjoy the camaraderie of like-minds.

Building connections starts with what we have in common.

When we truly feel safe enough, we can be inclusive, not to change anyone else, but to expand our own view.

Creating connections requires that we venture beyond our own view in order to be more understanding of the world and how it works.

Observing other cultures by being immersed in them or by meeting people form other cultures in your home state allows you to embrace something larger than yourself.

You define yourself, not by your barriers, but by your ability to see others as living valid lives as well.

The cultural context of life exists in many dimentions.

It is our privilege to create the connections which build more understanding.
